Youth Leadership Council

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Austin Symphony Youth Leadership Council is to engage Austin-area high school students in the development of leadership skills, to provide service opportunities to high school students seeking to make a positive impact on their community, to provide crucial financial support for the ASO’s youth education programs, and to encourage a lifelong commitment to supporting the performing arts.

Who We Are:
Established in 2013, The Austin Symphony Orchestra Youth Leadership Council is an innovative, nationally-recognized leadership development program open to all Austin-area high school students. As members of the YLC, students benefit from leadership training, community service opportunities, arts education, and relationship-building interactions with a diverse peer group. The program also provides crucial financial support for the Austin Symphony Orchestra’s youth education programs, serving 65,000 young people annually.

What We Do:
Each year, YLC members enjoy the opportunity to attend four 1-hour meetings, featuring speakers drawn from a variety of fields. These local luminaries discuss their paths to success as leaders and their personal inspirations. Members have the opportunity to interact with speakers.

Volunteer opportunities are also available (though not required) and may satisfy school service hour requirements.

Who Can Participate:
Any student in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade is eligible.
