Women’s Symphony League Looks Forward to Jewel Ball Festivities
2017 Events Promise a Pop and a Sizzle

AUSTIN, Texas – The Women’s Symphony League of Austin (WSL) began putting final touches this week on hotly anticipated Jewel Ball events. The annual Jewel Ball, Night at the Pops, takes place at Palmer Auditorium on September 23rd, preceded by the annual fashion show on Friday, September 22nd.

At this year’s Rhythm Runway, a high fashion runway show on par with New York Fashion Week, guests will experience the best of Austin fashion in a chic warehouse setting at Vault Space. Chaired by WSL member Lauren Wied, the show will feature local boutiques and designers from across the city including: Estilo, Found, Knot Standard, Weathered Coalition, Nha Khanh, Linda Asaf, and Zoltan David. Events begin at 10:30 am on Friday, September 22nd.

The crown jewel of the weekend and WSL’s signature gala, the Jewel Ball, takes center stage at 6:30pm on Saturday, September 23rd at Palmer Events Center. Night at the Pops promises guests an evening to remember, celebrating music and the Royal Court. Jewel Ball events this year are chaired by Pasha Moore. This year’s Honorary Chairs are Karen and Thomas Vaughn.

Royal Court participants are selected by the Jewel Committee, chaired by Jill Powell and Margaret Danforth, and were announced at the Jewel Tea in May. The Royal Court this year consists of a Diamond Queen and seven Princesses from Austin, honoring the support of local families to the Austin Symphony Orchestra. The WSL also invites outstanding, college-aged young women from across the state to represent their communities as members of the Visiting Jewel Court.

“I’m thrilled to chair this year’s festivities, following decades of tradition with the ball, but updating the customary fashion show WSL has long-hosted. Many thanks to this year’s individual chairs and WSL volunteers who poured their time and energy into this project,” said Pasha Moore, this year’s Jewel Ball events Chair.

Jewel Ball festivities are a culmination of a year’s worth of planning and coordination. The WSL also includes Austin teenagers in the festivities with their own dedicated event, the annual Soirée Dansante, a fundraiser for teens from across the city. This year’s event, The Soirée Festival, kicked-off on September 3rd, the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, at downtown’s Trinity Hall. Chair for this year’s event was WSL member Ellie Fitzgerald.

Tickets for Rhythm Runway and Night at the Pops are available online at www.wslaustin.org.

For 63 years, the Women’s Symphony League of Austin has dedicated its energy, talents and volunteerism by providing service and financial support to the Austin Symphony Orchestra and its education programs.  The Women’s Symphony League is the largest annual financial supporter of the Austin Symphony Orchestra educational programs for children. Over 65,000 children benefit from the innovative educational programs of the ASO every year.
