League of American Orchestras Volunteer Council
www.americanorchestras.org

The purpose of the Volunteer Council is to support the mission of the League of American Orchestras by providing leadership, communication, and a resource link between the League and orchestra volunteers.

The Volunteer Council is made up of recognized community leaders who have demonstrated outstanding support of their orchestra and who are committed to the goals of the League of American Orchestras. The Volunteer Council is geographically representative of direct-service volunteer leadership across the United States and Canada. Its work is twofold: to provide leadership to orchestras and their volunteer associations by acting as a training and communication resource from the League to the field and to inform the League of critical volunteer issues. The Council is committed to the ongoing education of its members to meet the current and future needs of volunteer associations in support of their orchestras.
The Volunteer Council partners and interfaces with League staff members to provide the following services for direct-service volunteers:
  • All the programming for the Volunteer track at the League’s Annual Conference in June
  • The quarterly online newsletter, Volunteer Notes
  • Training webinars
  • Hosting of an email discussion group where volunteers from around the country can share information
  • A resource center, which provides statistical and how-to information on all aspects of volunteer management from sample bylaws to recruiting tips and membership brochures. These resources are available to all volunteers.
  • A national arts advocacy network of orchestra volunteers
  • A network of experienced volunteers and professionals who can provide consultations to orchestras upon request
