Founded in 1953 and known locally as the WSL, this incredible organization of talented and music-loving women provides service and financial support to the Austin Symphony Orchestra and its programs, and offers educational opportunities for children and the community to further develop appreciation of music. Over the last 13 years, the WSL contributed more than $2.5 million to the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Last year alone, WSL members gave more than 9,000 volunteer hours to educational and fundraising projects.
Through the financial support of the WSL, the Austin Symphony Orchestra is able to provide free concerts for the entire community, national award-winning youth educational programs and so much more. Each year, 85,000 Central Texas children and over a quarter of a million adults benefit from musical education through our vast array of programs.
And we have FUN making this happen! Our fundraisers include a Jewel Ball, Fashion Show and Luncheon, Soiree (for 9th and 10th graders), Designer Showhouse and Golf Tournament. There is something for everyone!
Our special children’s activities include programs that our volunteers present to children, such as A Symphony for Simple Simon and La Sinfonica de Simón. We also fund and provide volunteers for the Young People’s Concerts, Halloween Concert and Children’s Day Art Park. A relatively new program, Maidens and Squires, both an educational and fundraising program, has been hugely successful.
We love our wonderful Austin Symphony Orchestra and work hard to help support it while helping to educate our children.
