Women’s Symphony League Prepares for Annual Jewel Ball Festivities
2016 Events Boast Innovative Theme and Famed Stylist & Designer, Brandon Maxwell

AUSTIN, Texas – The Women’s Symphony League of Austin (WSL) unveiled the theme this week for the 62nd Annual Jewel Ball and revealed details about events leading up to the September celebration, including the Soirée Dansante for Austin 9th & 10th graders and the WSL Fashion Show & Luncheon.

The WSL announced “Stairway to Heaven” as the 2016 Jewel Ball theme, and made public the hiring of esteemed party planner, Liv Toepfer of Liv by Design, to bring the vision to life. Guests will experience an ethereal design and complete transformation of Palmer Events Center on the evening of Saturday, September 24th, where guests will be whisked away to a night of blissful fundraising, celebrating music and the Royal Court. Jewel Ball events this year are co-chaired by Barbara Crockett and Martha Bell Liner.

Royal Court participants are selected by the Jewel Committee, chaired by Julie Baselice and Eledith Falk, and will be announced at the Jewel Tea in May. The Royal Court consists of a Diamond Queen and several Princesses from Austin, honoring the support of local families to the Austin Symphony Orchestra. The WSL also invites outstanding, college-aged young women from across the state to represent their communities as members of the Visiting Jewel Court.

Ball festivities will begin with the WSL Luncheon & Fashion Show on Friday, September 23rd at the JW Marriott, chaired by Sharon Wilson and Tina Kemmerer. This year, the WSL is proud to present famed designer Brandon Maxwell as the keynote speaker. Maxwell is an award-winning red carpet stylist and fashion designer from Longview, Texas who resides in New York and is best known for his work with Lady Gaga.

“The WSL is incredibly excited about and grateful for Brandon’s support and participation,” incoming WSL President, Beth Grimm said. “An artist of his caliber helps bring awareness to our organization and its important mission to financially support ASO and its programs, which offer artistic educational opportunities for children across Central Texas. These programs help foster our collective appreciation for music in Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World, and distinguish us from other cities across the country.”

Jewel Ball festivities are a culmination of a year’s worth of planning and coordination. The WSL also includes Austin teenagers in the festivities with their own dedicated event, the annual Soirée Dansante, a semi-formal fundraiser for teens from across the city. This year’s event, Soirádical 2016, will take place on September 4th, the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, at the Brodie Homestead. Chairs for this year’s event are WSL members Stacey Brewer and Karen Temborius.

Tickets for the Jewel Ball, WSL Luncheon & Fashion Show and Soirádical 2016 will be available online at www.wslaustin.org. Early bird pricing for Soirádical 2016 is available now through May 31st.

For 63 years, The Women’s Symphony League of Austin has dedicated its energy, talents and volunteerism by providing service and financial support to the Austin Symphony Orchestra and its education programs. The Women’s Symphony League is the largest annual financial supporter of the Austin Symphony Orchestra educational programs for children. Over 65,000 children benefit from the innovative educational programs of the ASO every year.
